Vitamin E: Your Skin’s Best Friend

Is Vitamin E good for skin?

When it comes to formulating a skincare product, it all comes down to choosing the right combination of ingredients. During the formulation process of Pure Shave, we knew that we wanted to create a shaving cream that not only reduced irritation and resulted in a cleaner shave, but that would hydrate and moisturise the skin.

You see, a lot of shaving creams use a combination of detergents to create a lather, which strips your skin’s natural oils and dries it out, making you more susceptible to shaving rash. We knew there had to be a better way.

What Is Vitamin E?

Vitamin E is the collective name for a group of 8 oil-soluble compounds. Of these, the type of Vitamin E which is used in skincare products is tocopherol. This is an antioxidant which helps to repair damaged cells and protect them from free radicals, which cause premature ageing.

We get the majority of Vitamin E from our diets. It can be found in vegetable oils, nuts, seeds and green leafy veg. However, the skin can get additional benefit from having Vitamin E applied to it directly.

How Does Vitamin E Help Your Skin?

Vitamin E helps our skin in a number of ways, it can reverse cellular damage, prevent ageing and nourish the skin.

Reversing cellular damage: Whether from sun damage, scars or burns, our skin shows signs of past injury. Vitamin E is able to reduce these marks by restoring the cells.

Preventing ageing: The sun’s UV rays, pollution and our diet can all introduce free radicals into our system. These oxidize our cells, leading to premature ageing. As an antioxidant, Vitamin E targets free radicals and destroys them.

Nourishing skin: With moisturising properties, Vitamin E hydrates the skin and strengthens its natural barrier. It is also an anti-inflammatory, reducing redness and swelling.

Why Include Vitamin E In A Shaving Cream?

At Pure Shave, we believe that any product you use on your skin should add to its overall health, not take away from it. Unlike other shaving creams which leave the skin feeling tight and dry, we use the power of Vitamin E to nourish, hydrate and protect.

Our Vitamin E comes from Sweet Almond Oil – read our blog on it HERE

While we don’t use oil stripping detergents or SLS in our products, we know that skin can always use a helping hand of moisture, especially when shaving. That’s why our products are enriched with the skin-protecting properties of Vitamin E.
