Natural shaving products, why bother?
In short, it is highly likely that a natural shaving product will be better for your skin and the environment, it’s as simple as that. I get it though, we as humans are creatures of habit and will often use the same products year in year out. The process of researching new products can be SO boring and time consuming (and what if they don’t work!!*). So, I have put together a cheat sheet for you with some basic information on why you should be bothered to make the change and some great products for you to try.
What are Natural Shaving Products?
Unsurprisingly, natural shaving products are made from natural ingredients, such as plant-based oils, essential oils, and natural butters. That’s great news if you are a Vegan! They’re typically free of harsh chemicals, artificial fragrances, and synthetic preservatives. These products are created with a focus on providing a more natural and eco-friendly alternative to traditional shaving products.
Benefits of Using Natural Shaving Products
Less Irritation and Allergic Reactions
One of the significant benefits of using natural shaving products is that they’re less likely to cause skin irritation or allergic reactions. Thats why I created Pure Shave, I suffered from shaving rash for years using mainstream products. Traditional ‘mainstream’ shaving products often contain harsh chemicals that can cause redness, itching, and other skin irritations. Natural shaving products, on the other hand, use natural ingredients that are gentle on the skin and less likely to cause irritation.
Environmentally Friendly
Natural based shaving products are often created with environmentally friendly ingredients, and the production process is typically more sustainable than traditional shaving products. Packaging is also a key point here as well. Companies that offer a natural product are more likely to have thought about sustainable packaging options rather than the bottom line thinking, larger corporations. When I created Pure Shave the packaging took the longest time and gave me the most headaches to get right.
Nourishing and Moisturising
A Natural shaving cream will often contain natural oils and butters that can help nourish and moisturise the skin. This is especially beneficial for those with dry or sensitive skin. In our case when developing Pure Shave, Sweet Almond and Coconut oils were the first two ingredients on our must have list. More traditional shaving products, especially foams and gels, contain ingredients that can strip the skin of its natural oils, leaving it dry and prone to irritation.

Fragrance Free
Mainstream shaving products are often packed with fragrances. In their basic forms, many ingredients for a scent can be classed as an irritant to skin. This is why you will find many natural based products opt to be fragrance free and proudly so! I did try a fragrance within Pure Shave during the five years in development but could not find one that allowed me to shave without and irritation, hence our shaving products are fragrance free.
Better Quality and Performance
Companies that produce natural shaving products are often created with a focus on providing high-quality ingredients that can improve the shaving experience. I searched mainstream products for years to cure my shaving rash to no avail so ended up creating Pure Shave to solve this. For example, natural oils and butters can help to lubricate the skin, providing a smoother shave. These products can provide a luxurious and high-quality shaving experience that can be difficult to replicate with traditional shaving products.
