How to Prepare Your Skin for Spring

Prepare your skin for spring! The demands that are placed on our skin change throughout the year, which is why we suggest tailoring your regime to suit the season. Put your best foot forward with these tips for preparing your skin for spring.

Start With A Shave

There’s only so much we can do for our skin when it’s covered in a dense layer of hair. So, before giving your face the once-over for spring, start with a close shave. As well as giving you a clean slate to start your springtime skincare routine, shaving makes it easier to apply your products evenly and effectively.

Heat your skin to soften the hair and open your pores, then follow up with a liberal dose of Pure Shave Shaving Cream to get a smoother shave. Once you’re happy with your work, it’s time to move on to your skin. For shaving tips check out our YouTube video HERE

Buff Away Winter

The cold, harsh weather puts our skin through a lot, leaving it dry, chapped and irritated. Exfoliating away those dead skin cells and flakes is an important part of transitioning your skincare to spring, giving you a blank canvas before we start putting moisture back into the skin.

Exfoliating can take a number of forms, with options for all skin types. For tougher skin, a scrub that uses abrasive ingredients like grains of sugar or powdered pumice can give immediate results. For the thinner skin on your face, we recommend a BHA or AHA acid exfoliator.

Unlike scrubs which use brute force to break the bonds that hold onto dead skin cells, acid exfoliators break this cellular “glue” at a molecular level. Lactic acid is a great choice for those with sensitive skin, while salicylic acid is a popular all-rounder.

Lock In More Moisture

Now that your skin is free of buildup, it’s time to give it a good dose of hydration. For those who use Pure Shave Shaving Cream as part of their daily shaving routine, you may find that you can skip this step. Our shaving cream is rich in moisturising ingredients, including Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut Oil and Glycerin, giving all-day hydration for most skin types.

However, if you have particularly dry skin, a quality moisturiser is a must. Pure Shave Moisturiser is a light, easily absorbed cream that deeply nourishes the skin without leaving a greasy residue – ideal for warm spring days.

Protect With SPF

As the days heat up, it’s incredibly important to match your skincare routine to the changing weather. This means using an SPF sunscreen from April through October. Not only does SPF defend your skin from burning in the sun’s rays, but it also protects you from premature ageing.

For healthy, younger-looking skin, reach for a quality SPF30+ sunscreen after moisturising and reapply as needed throughout the day.
